Summer Wandering in the town of Sparta
Would you like one ghost or two with your tea?
If your answer is two . . . then come to ‘The Sparta House Tearoom & Restaurant’.

Picture
On first glance it looks like ‘The Sparta House’ has its own TARDIS.  Seeing that old fashioned red phone booth made me think of ‘Dr. Who’ right away.  But no.  It’s just a phone booth.  But don’t be disappointed because ‘The Sparta House’ does have other delights.

Like . . .

Picture
They also serve a delectable shepherd’s pie with your choice of salad (Caesar for me).  And while you’re waiting for your meal you can have a look at the tea pots on display (350 at last count).  Here are some I managed to snap a picture of before our meal was ready

Gee that one tea pot on the right looks a little familiar . . . hmmm . . .
Picture
It’s Miss Piggy!  Wow, there are even tea pots of famous people here!

But what was that about a ghost?  Or two?

Yes, apparently ‘The Sparta House’ has two ghosts living under it’s roof.  When Ken and Norma Roberts moved into their tea house/home they noticed some strange things happening.  Heavy objects inexplicably moved.  Doors locking shut and opening—by themselves.  Sightings of a woman dressed in gray at the top of the stairs.  So they called in the ‘Rescue Mediums’.  If you want to watch the show here is the link.

We didn’t see any ghosts but we did sit at the table near the window that one ghost reportedly likes to look out from.  And our meal was awesome!

Picture
My ever patient friend letting me snap yet another picture of her.

Picture
Sparta is a romantic sort of town.  It has an assortment of shops under the title ‘The Village Collective’.  And they are fun to wander around in.

Picture
One of the places I love to visit is ‘Shelley McVittie’s Gallery & Heritage Line Herbs’.  Shelley is herself an artist who supports other artists.  When you enter the store you are immediately struck by the variety of art, jewelry, books, home crafts and herbs Shelley has on display.  And they are all from artists and crafters from around the area.

Picture
Picture
I purchased a couple of crystals from her store.  They came from Kate Vanner who refers to herself as ‘The Witch Down the Road’.  I’ve met Kate and found her to be a lovely person.
Here are the crystals I purchased with Kate’s card in between them.

Picture
Here are a few other stores in the area.

Picture
The ‘Anything Used’ store and the sign on the far right gives directions to ‘Rush Creek Wines’ which I’ve also visited and enjoyed.

The Bear Friend Factory at ‘Whistle Stop Peddler’s’.

Picture
And what’s a bear factory with out a bear?

If you’re still thinking about those ghosts at ‘The Sparta House’ you may be interested in the ‘Guided Sparta Spirit Walks’.

Wandering at The Six Nations – Grand River Pow Wow

It was an extremely hot day but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Even though my clothing was stuck to my skin from sweating so much, I decided to ‘embrace the wet’.  Why?  Because I believe that ‘thoughts are things’ and I was determined to make sure that my energy and attention was focused on ‘having a good time’.  Plus, I reminded myself that my shower that night would feel extra good.

I had only been to one Pow Wow before this one.  That was last year—and I loved it.  There is a part of the Pow Wow when everyone is invited to dance.  I danced and did my best to keep to the beat.  What was really awesome was when we would pass by the drummers and chanters.  I swear I could feel the spiritual power flowing through my body.  I found myself smiling for no reason.  That was last year.

This year we did not come at the right time to dance but it was still awesome seeing the First Nations people in all of their regalia.  Here are some pics.

Then we wandered to all of the various tents.

Picture
I found an amazing dream catcher to hang over my writing chair.  It was made by Darlene Nolan of the ‘Gemah Street Merchants’.  This is her husband Michael holding it up for me.
He tucked this little explanation in the bag with my dream catcher.

Picture
Here is my friend Sandra and Charlie Fife of ‘Charlie’s Trading Post’.  I bought a small black medicine bag from Charlie that had a wolf talon on it.

Picture
During my stay in Mount Bridges I had the chance to participate in a type of energy work called ‘Sonic Bliss’.  I’ll talk about my experience in a later blog called ‘Spiritual Energy Work I Did’.  It was this experience that made me realize that I wanted to explore the effects of music during meditation.

So I bought . . .

In case you’re interested in adding some music to your prayer or meditation time, here is the company I bought my CD from . . .

Then we happened upon a unique artist, Jay Soule, who has created a whole line of clothing, stickers, digital prints, skateboards, original paintings and Indigenous Movie Monster series.  His company name is CHIPPEWAR.

Here is Jay holding up a piece of his artwork.

This is that same artwork on a t-shirt.

I bought this one . . .

She just really appealed to the fantasy writer in me.

Wandering at the Home County Fair in London, Ontario.

Picture
Much like the Sunfest (last blog) there were rows of treats and foods to enjoy.
The Home County Fair also had tents of clothing, accessories, bath items, garden statues and jewelers.

Picture
Fairy doors for your garden.

Natural Soaps that smelled awesome and some very creative names.

Picture

Picture
This one was my favorite.  Yes, I’m a fan of ‘Orange is the New Black’.

Picture
We found this little fella hard at work keeping the fair grounds safe.

Picture
So many fun statues for your garden.

Then we ran across a musical duo that we just had to stop for.

Picture
That is a Celtic Harp people!

Picture
Picture
And the percussionist, Robert McMaster, who accompanies her has found some GENIUS ways to make tinkling sounds.  Those are car keys attached to a spinning plate.  The sound is fantastic!

Picture
My friend, Sandra, getting Reflexology done.  Sandra’s other tattoo of the butterfly faded almost the same day so she got the one you see here on her arm at the Home County Fair.

While she did that I wandered around to the different tents and found a woman selling gemstones.

Picture
In this pic she is putting the wire on a couple of amethyst stones I had picked out.  Love the Dread Locks.  They look so good on her!  And such a charming person.

Picture
This was her card.

After that we wandered some more and found this fellow selling Eco Lamps.

Picture
And these for your lawn . . .

Picture
Interesting golden lamps and a few funky skeleton lamps behind them.

We ran into another soap maker who also put a different spin on her soap names.

Picture
Picture
I bought the Tart one and it was lovely.

At that point I decided that my dragon henna tattoo needed a companion and so I got a salamander henna tattoo to keep him company.

Picture
I realized later that I had picked two fire elements and I’m an air sign!

Wandering at Lake Huron

A day or so later we went to the beach on Lake Huron.  The water levels were high this year so the normal amount of sand was smaller than usual.  But it was still a beautiful day.

Picture
The seagulls kept us company.  You could tell they were used to people because they kept walking by us at a nonchalant pace.  One of them kept sneaking closer and closer.  I think he was hoping we had food he could snatch-and-grab.  We did not.  When he realized we didn’t have anything for him I swear he gave us a dirty look before walking away.

Picture
Those are my toes.  I’m standing on the area where the waves crash to the shore.  The water was really warm.  If you look hard you can see my purple toenail polish.

Well that's it for now.  Hope you enjoyed the sites and the uniquely gifted artists and crafters as much as I did.  Feel free to share your vacation stories in the comments below.
