Spotlight on Jennifer Estep y’all!
Jennifer Estep – one of my favorite authors. Each story she tells takes you on a journey that satisfies.
I’ve never been let down by one of her books whether it’s THE ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN urban fantasy series; the BLACK BLADE young adult urban fantasy; the MYTHOS ACADEMY young adult urban fantasy series; or the BIGTIME paranormal romance series. It’s always good – every time.
If you’re new to Jennifer Estep – I envy you – because you have a whole bunch of good reading to look forward to!
As an experienced Jennifer Estep reader I must confess that I have reread most of her books – at least twice. Even though I know the outcome, the journey is always good.
The ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN series is where I started. The first book SPIDER’S BITE caught me on the first page where GIN BLANCO says to her therapy group, “My name is Gin, and I kill people.” And what do they say back? “Hi, Gin.” No freaking out. No scared silence. Just a monotone reply. Intriguing for sure.
If you’re into comics and superheroes you’ll want to check out her BIGTIME series. Set in the city of Bigtime, New York where superheroes and ubervillians clash it out. Start with KARMA GIRL.
MYTHOS ACADEMY is a school full of Spartans, Valkyries and Amazons. However the main character Gwen Frost is the only person attending the school who has the gift of psychometry. The ability to read or find an object and know its history – just by touching it or where it’s been! She's not a warrior. Yet the academy and her grandmother insist she belongs there. There is a Prequel E-story called FIRST FROST. But if you prefer to start with a print book then begin with TOUCH OF FROST.
The BLACK BLADE series is about a thief who has a Talent for sight and transference magic. Magic actually makes her stronger. She does her best to lay low and avoid the old families who control the town. But her hero instinct for helping others gets her noticed by one of the powerful families. Her good deed gets her pushed into the middle of their war. The first book is called COLD BURN OF MAGIC.
All I have left to say is this – Jennifer, you keep writing them and I’ll keep reading them!
